Wychwood School International Peace Conference

On Saturday 25th January over 80 pupils from all over the world took part in the second Wychwood School International Peace Conference. Three Study II (Year 13) pupils reflect on the day:

  • The recent Peace Conference on Food Security in an Insecure World brought together pupils from diverse backgrounds and schools across Oxford and the world for a powerful discussion on global food challenges. Through work in small groups of pupils and an expert lecture from the University of Oxford – Future of Food group participants explored a key issue in today’s world – Food Insecurity. This event helped us develop communication, teamwork and public speaking skills.  (Andrii)
  • It was a wonderful opportunity to discuss and understand how some of the world’s main issues regarding food insecurity are being worked towards worldwide and it was truly inspiring. (Freya)
  • The global food security in an insecure world conference enabled pupils from a broad range of backgrounds to gain understanding and allowed them to think logically about current global issues and potential solutions to help reduce the impacts. We were split into groups and allocated a question per group to research and then present at the end of the conference. This not only allowed people to develop a rounded geographical understanding of food globally but also pushed people out of their comfort zones increasing their confidence to speak publicly whilst in a supportive environment.
