Ai Futures, Oxford

Pioneering AI Literacy to tomorrows workforce.

AI Futures, Oxford

Oxford is fast becoming a global centre of gravity for Artificial Intelligence, recently named the UK’s first AI Growth Zone and positioned at the heart of the government’s ambition to build a UK Silicon Valley. Against this backdrop of rapid innovation and booming demand for AI-skilled talent, AI Futures Oxford, a new micro-school powered by Wychwood is launching a bold, accessible programme designed to equip young people with the AI literacy needed to thrive in any industry.

The pioneering Oxford-based micro-school has brought in senior academic expertise to shape a first-of-its-kind AI literacy programme, offering post-16 students across the UK a powerful new route into the world of Artificial Intelligence.

AI Futures Oxford, powered by Wychwood, launches this year with a unique model: a full A-Level in Artificial Intelligence combined with a comprehensive extension programme exploring how AI is governed, developed and applied across the modern economy.

Unlike traditional school-based courses, AI Futures Oxford is delivered entirely outside standard school hours, making it accessible to any learner, regardless of where they study.

This open-access approach ensures students can gain future-critical skills without needing to move schools or disrupt existing pathways.

The programme has been developed in collaboration with leading academics and industry specialists, including Sergey Saveliev, Dean and Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Loughborough University, who will serve as an advisor. His involvement ensures the curriculum is grounded in the latest research and reflects how AI is transforming sectors such as healthcare, finance, engineering, education and public policy.

A pathway built for relevance, reach and real-world impact

Crucially, AI Futures Oxford focuses on AI literacy, not the deployment of AI tools in classrooms. As concerns grow among parents and policymakers about the misuse of generative AI in education, this programme offers clarity and reassurance. Students gain the understanding needed to navigate an AI-enabled world, without replacing or bypassing traditional learning.

Alongside technical foundations, the programme places strong emphasis on ethics, governance, societal impact and responsible innovation. Learners will explore real-world case studies and connect directly with industry through employer-linked events, conferences and research-informed activity.

The micro-school model is deliberately designed to be short, powerful and accessible, offering students an academically elite experience while complementing Wychwood’s pastoral ethos. It widens participation in advanced AI learning at a stage when exposure to the subject is still rare, despite soaring demand for AI-skilled talent.

A new route into higher education and future-proof careers

AI Futures Oxford offers students a fourth A-Level, a highly distinctive “ticket to the game”, alongside a structured extension curriculum that is entirely unique in the UK market. This combination equips young people with the knowledge, context and confidence to progress into:

  • AI-related degrees
  • STEM and humanities pathways with an AI dimension
  • Industry-linked apprenticeships and early careers programmes

As AI reshapes the global workforce at pace, Oxford’s leadership in AI research and policy makes it the ideal launchpad for this next-generation educational pathway.
