As the GCSE English Literature syllabus includes Macbeth we are taking those in the Shell and Upper Transit Literature groups to see the performance at The RSC Theatre Stratford, on Friday 4th May. I am afraid this was my seventh date of preference as school tickets are unavailable on Fridays but as the cast includes Christopher Eccleston and Niamh Cusack, and it is a popular GCSE text, tickets have proved popular. This is our only opportunity to see the play this academic year. A performance is being broadcast live in cinemas on 11th April, during the Easter holiday, if girls would like to maximise revision. Advance booking is recommended at www.rsc.org.uk/macbeth/in-cinemas
Mrs Stevens and Ms Sherlock will drive the girls to the theatre in a minibus and car in order to keep transport costs as low as possible. We will charge £50 for the trip and the English department will subsidise the outstanding costs. We will leave school at 4.30pm to be in plenty of time. Packed suppers will be provided for boarders. We ask, please, that day girls bring packed suppers from home. We hope that the weather will allow us to eat by the river before the performance. The performance begins at 7.15pm.
The running time is to be confirmed but performances are usually about 3 hours long. As such we estimate that we would leave Stratford at about 10.30pm, depending on parking, and be back at school by 11.30pm. Boarding is available to those who require it at the £20 bed and breakfast (trips returning after 10.00pm) rate.
Please complete the permission form to attend this trip, and detail how your daughter will get home once we are back at Wychwood.
