Philosophy Plus Science Taster Day at Oxford University
21st November 2019
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Your daughter may have expressed interest in attending the Philosophy Plus Science taster day at Oxford University on Friday 10th January 2020.
The day is advertised as an opportunity to find out more about how science and philosophy intertwine. More specifically, how computer science, physics, and mathematics all have one thing in common: philosophy. It is open to high-achieving Year 11 and 12 students taking, or planning on taking, maths A Level; students should be considering applying to university to study a STEM subject. Those considering further maths or physics A Level are particularly welcome. The girls will have the opportunity to attend lectures by Oxford experts, find out about the Oxford application and interview process from the tutors responsible and explore what it feels like to live and study at Oxford University.
Further information can be found at www.cs.ox.ac.uk/philosophyplus
The girls will leave school at 9.15am and should return to school by 5.15pm. We will be walking to the Mathematical Institute and back to school. There is no cost for the day and they will be accompanied during the day by Miss Stone or Mrs Stevens. We will provide a packed lunch and cold drinks.
I hope do that your daughter will be able to go as she will gain valuable insight into what studying mathematics may involve. Places are limited and often in high demand, so we have placed a deadline of 4.00pm on Friday 29th November. To book her place, she will need to submit an online form at www.cs.ox.ac.uk/events/eventTaster.jsp?chosenEvent=245. Please include my details as the Teacher Contact. Once she has booked herself onto the event, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm and indicate how your daughter will be getting home.
Miss Victoria Stone
Head of Mathematics
