From 1st January 2015 all mobile and internet-enabled devices such as mobile phones and tablets have needed to have age-appropriate content filters to ensure compliance with Wychwood School Internet policy. This arises out of the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) advice on best practice for managing internet connectivity.
Any device (phone, iPad, iPod or similar non-Apple devices) with an internet connection will need to be filtered by your mobile provider. We will need confirmation from you via the reply form opposite that the filters are in place.
We reserve the right to check a girl’s devices for filtration. If the filters are not in place, then the device may not be used on the school premises. It will be removed from the pupil, taken to the school office and it can then be collected at the end of the school day to be taken home.
If you are in any doubt as to whether these filters are in place, please contact your provider’s customer services who will be able to advise you. We will be undertaking random checks of girls’ devices from February half term. Girls will be asked to demonstrate the filters to the network manager so please can they all be informed of how to do this.
To improve the security of the girls’ devices, please can parents and guardians ensure that all valuable electronic devices are named indelibly with the girl’s surname and initials. This can be done either by having the device professionally engraved or by using nail varnish, although girls and parents should understand that any subsequent attempt to remove the name using nail varnish remover is very likely to damage the plastic of the device.
