Next Steps Evening
12th September 2019
I hope that your daughter has settled in well at the beginning of this exciting final year in her school career. I am writing to update you on the way ahead as far as university application is concerned.
Firstly, our Next Steps evening, is taking place on Tuesday, 19th September. As advertised in the Calendar, staff will be available from 6.30pm to discuss with you and your daughter the progress that she has made in terms of finalising her course and university choices,
We are very happy for you to arrive at 6.30pm when tea and coffee will be provided in the Study area, and Mrs Johnson will be on hand to meet you. However, in order to make the proceedings more efficient, we would like to offer you a specific appointment with the member of staff who is acting as your daughter’s UCAS adviser. You therefore have the option of arriving at 6.30pm, or for you allocated appointment.
Your meeting is with you daughter’s advisor, Ms Sherlock, at 6.50pm. On arrival, please come to the study area to register and find your daughter, if she has stayed in school.
Please would you confirm by email if you will be attending this appointment to email@example.com
Secondly, I wish to convey briefly how we will be supporting your daughter through the application process.
We are meeting as a class every Friday morning from 8.30-9.30 am. This is a compulsory UCAS session that your daughter needs to attend until her application form is complete. During this time we will ensure that your daughter has filled the UCAS form in correctly, which is quite complex. Alongside this class, your daughter will be offered individual appointments with her adviser to work on her personal statement.
We would ideally like your daughter to have made her course choices and written a first draft of her personal statement by the end of September, though we recognise this might not be possible in all cases. During October, your daughter will refine her personal statement under the guidance of the most relevant subject teacher and her adviser. The school will be drafting a reference that will be shared with your daughter before the application is sent off. It is our aim to see personal statements and references completed by around the half term holiday at the end of October.
Some general guidance about ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ on personal statements can be downloaded that will also be given to your daughter.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries about the application process or the support that Wychwood will be providing for your daughter.
I very much hope to see you next Tuesday,
