Lower Transits trip to The Science Museum, London, Monday 19th November 2018
18th October 2018
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am writing to let you know that the Lower Transits will be visiting The Science Museum in London. This is an exciting cross curricular trip for computing, careers and science. Activities have been organised to include:
Engineer your future – this is an opportunity to find out more about careers in engineering in an interactive and fun way and a very topical subject at the moment with organisations crying out for more girls to get into engineering! An opportunity to develop skills, play games and take a peek at the future in FutureVille.
Wonderlab – Hands-on experience where the girls will be able to fuel their imaginations with more than 50 hands-on experiences, that will ignite their curiosity in science and maths by exploring scientific principles at first hand.
Science Show: Be entertained by something a little different!
The Info Age Gallery – This gallery tells the story of the Information Age over the last two hundred years*
There will also be some free time to explore and take part in the Great Object Hunt!
We will be walking to Oxford Station, travelling by train to London Paddington and then by tube to South Kensington. The museum is a very short walk from the tube station. Risk assessments have been carried out for the journey and the venue.
To make the very most of their visit, the girls will find it helpful to take their phone/camera to record their experiences.
There will be follow up work about their visit in computing and they will find it a great reference point and fun to use during their visit.
The cost of the trip is in the region of £36 per pupil which includes admission, activities, packed lunch and transport by train and tube. We will be leaving school at 8.45am and plan to return to school by 6.00pm. Please would you ensure that you have made arrangements to accommodate our later return.
