Lower School trip to Stratford upon Avon
Posted: 26th June 2018
Wherefore art thou, Romeo?
After a late start, courtesy of a late bus, the merry troop of Remove, Inters and LTs arrived in Stratford to a ‘Brush up Your Shakespeare talk’ courtesy of the Shakespeare Centre, at which plenty of girls won pins sporting Shakespeare insults for their ‘brushed up’ knowledge in the group quiz.
A swift walk through Shakespeare’s birthplace, (‘wow, those doorways are small’) was followed by statutory ice cream and drinks, vital in the wonderful heat of the day! This was followed by a march across town to the Courtyard Theatre where in two groups, the girls received outstanding drama sessions from RSC actors, preparing them for the play in the evening. Physical theatre ought to have tired them, but after two hours they were as fresh as when they started and could probably have done even more! This was the highlight of the day.
Supper on the lawn at the waterside, in welcome shade from the trees, and before we knew it the time had come to settle back and watch the RSC in action. A very young and modern performance of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ had the girls thrilled in their seats.
A wonderful trip all round, and many thanks to Mrs Kirby for the meticulous organisation of the day.
