Geography Trip to Hengistbury Head
6th June 2019
During the Trinity Term, the Lower Transits will be looking at the Physical Landscape of the United Kingdom, with particular focus on coastal geography. To that end I would like to take them to Hengistbury Head in Dorset. There is a fantastic stretch of coastline that is manageable to study in one day, and will provide us with some interesting results to analyse once back in the classroom. The trip will go on Thursday 13th June and last all day. Although we anticipate arriving back by 4.00pm, should there be delays the girls will ring ahead to alert you to our return time.
Whilst there, we will be looking and measuring the characteristics of the beach and attempting to measure longshore drift. To that end could I ask that suitable clothing is worn (PE kit and waterproofs would be perfect). Suitable footwear should also be worn. Much of the beach is comprised of shingle and we will be walking, so flip flops are not appropriate.
We will be travelling by coach, and as such there will be a small charge for the trip. This will be added to the end of term bill.
A risk assessment has been carried out and is available to see should you wish to do so.
With kind regards
