Dear Parents/ Guardians
This term, girls in the Inters have been studying Javanese gamelan music as part of their class music lessons. As a part of this study, I have arranged for the girls to attend a practical gamelan workshop on 4th June at the University of Oxford’s Bate Collection. We will also have a tour of the Bate Collection and girls will have a chance to handle and play some of the musical instruments on display.
The workshop will take place from 9.30am until 12.15pm, as part of the normal school day. The girls will walk to the University’s music department on St Aldate’s from school and will be accompanied by a gap assistant as well as myself.
The girls should wear school uniform for the trip, as they will be attending normal lessons in the afternoon. They should be prepared to remove their shoes to participate in the workshop, as this is seen to be respectful behaviour in Indonesian culture when playing the gamelan.
There is a small charge for taking part in this trip, which will not exceed £20.
A risk assessment is being carried out by me, to be confirmed by the Head, of potential risk on the journey and during the visit. A copy of the assessment can be supplied to parents / guardians on request.
This trip is covered by the annual consent agreement, so you do not need to complete a permission slip for your daughter to participate.
If you have any queries or further questions about the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me.
