The new Geography GCSE and A Level Specifications contain a requirement that all students have to partake in fieldwork over the course. Whereas before the reforms, GCSE pupils wrote a piece of coursework based on this, now the skills learnt form an integral part of the examination. At A Level, these skills are also examined.
Mrs Roitt wrote to you all before the summer holidays outlining details of a Geography Fieldwork course that the Department is proposing to run. I am writing to you to confirm that we have booked space at the Nettlecombe Court Field Study Centre. The trip will provide a fantastic opportunity to focus on this aspect of the course allowing the girls to collect a range of fieldwork data. We will be leaving School on Friday 26th October, arriving back on Monday 29th October. More details of the Centre can be found at www.field-studies-council.org/centres/nettlecombecourt.aspx
A specific itinerary for the trip is still be agreed. I will write to you again once these details have been finalised. The overall cost will be in the region of £240 which includes full board and the costs of the field study centre, transport and insurance. This will be added to the end of term bill. All GCSE and A Level geographers are expected to attend as this is an integral part of their courses.
Could I please ask for you to complete the consent form opposite, if you have not done already, to confirm your daughter’s place on the course.
