This term, girls taking BTEC music have been studying different concert venues as part of their course and also the health and safety requirements that must be considered when putting on a concert. As a part of this work, I have arranged for the girls to visit Coventry, which will be the 2021 UK city of culture.
During the visit, the girls will have the chance to interview the Coventry City Council licensing team, and the health and safety team for events. They will meet with the Director of Coventry City Council who is responsible for signing off health and safety certificates for venues around the city, and will also have meetings with officials from Coventry City Council and Coventry Cathedral who are responsible for organising large scale events. All morning meetings will take place in Friargate, which is one of the main office hubs occupied by Coventry City Council. In the afternoon, the girls will be taken on a tour around the Ricoh Arena, which is a large-scale multi-purpose venue. It is perhaps most famous as the home of the Wasps rugby team, but has also recently hosted artists such as the Rolling Stones, Rihanna and Bruce Springsteen.
The visit will take place on Wednesday 7th November. We will need to leave Oxford at 8.00am, and should be back at approximately 4.00pm. As the BTEC group is only a small class, we will be travelling by car to the various venues. I will be responsible for driving the girls and for looking after them during the day. The girls should bring a bottle of water with them, but school will provide a packed lunch. Pupils should wear smart business clothing for the trip, as they will be visiting the workplace.
There is a small charge for taking part in this trip to cover the cost of transport, which will not exceed £10.
A risk assessment is being carried out by me, to be confirmed by the Head, of potential risk on the journey and during the visit. A copy of the assessment can be supplied to parents/guardians on request.
This trip is already covered by the annual consent agreement, but please could you complete the reply form opposite to acknowledge receipt of this letter and to agree that your daughter will be ready to depart from school at 8.00am on 7th November.
If you have any queries or further questions about the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me.
