13+ Scholarships

Scholarships at Wychwood are awarded at our main points of entry: 11+, 13+ and 16+ and are open to current students and those applying to join the school.
Girls in the Inters can apply for a 13+ scholarship which may be awarded in academica, art, drama, music, sports and an all-rounder scholarship, referred to as the Lee Scholarship, after our founder Miss Lee.
All scholarship tests, auditions and interviews will take place on Tuesday 25th February.
In all cases, scholarships are competitive and will only be awarded if the standard merits the award.
Academic Scholarships
Academic scholarships will be awarded on the basis of scholarship papers in maths and English.
We award major scholarships of £1,000 p.a. and minor scholarships of £500 p.a.
Creative Arts Scholarships
We offer scholarships to candidates with outstanding ability in art / textiles, creative writing or both. We award major scholarships of £1,000 p.a. and minor scholarships of £500 p.a.
Art / Textiles – Candidates are asked to bring six artistic compositions or craft items which will be discussed with the Head of Art. A short unprepared task will be undertaken.
Creative Writing – Candidates are asked to bring six different pieces of work, showing a range of writing including stories, poetry, non-fiction and anything else that you would like to discuss with the Head of English. Candidates are also asked to write a further piece, drawn from a stimulus.
These awards are intended for the support of the student’s artistic interests. All creative arts award holders are expected to be fully involved in the artistic life of the school.
Drama Scholarships
Drama scholarships are offered at 13+ to candidates with outstanding ability and potential in drama. We award major scholarships of £1,000 p.a. and minor scholarships of £500 p.a.
Drama scholars will be expected to be grade 5 or 6 level at 13+.
Candidates will be expected to perform one prepared piece of no more than three minutes and discuss their love of drama with the head of Drama at an audition.
These awards are intended for the support of the student’s dramatic interests. All drama award holders are expected to be fully involved in the dramatic life of the school. This includes attendance at all performance events, to act as front of house for Drama, to take a part in school plays and / or crew for those they are not involved in, and to talk about the drama provision in school at open events.
Music Scholarships
One Music Scholarship is offered at 13+ to cover instrumental tuition for up to two instruments including voice.
Music scholars will be expected to be grade 5 or 6 level at 13+.
Candidates will be expected to play two prepared pieces on their instrument(s) and to do aural tests and sight reading. They will also have an interview with the Director of Music about their musical tastes and interests.
These awards are intended for the support of the student’s musical interests. All music award holders are expected to be fully involved in the musical life of the school. Music scholars are expected to participate in choir and other relevant ensembles, and should aim to perform regularly at performing arts evening. They should also behave as ambassadors for the music department, encouraging and supporting their peers to become involved in music
Sports Scholarship
Sports scholarships are offered at 13+ to candidates with outstanding ability and potential in sports. We award major scholarships of £1,000 p.a. and minor scholarships of £500 p.a.
Candidates will take part in a practical session involving netball and/or hockey. They will also have an individual interview with the Director of Sport when they will have the opportunity to discuss their achievements and their favourite sports.
These awards are intended for the support of the student’s sporting interests. All sport award holders are expected to be fully involved in the sporting life of the school.
The Lee Scholarship
The Lee Scholarships are offered at 13+ to candidates who demonstrate potential in at least three areas of school life: academia, music, creative arts, drama or sport. We award major scholarships of £1,000 p.a. and minor scholarships of £500 p.a.
Candidates will not have reached the levels required for the individual scholarships but will be demonstrating the potential for high achievement within the three chosen areas. Candidates will be interviewed by the relevant heads of department and will need to demonstrate their abilities by audition or performance on the scholarship day. These awards are intended for the support of the student’s individual development. All Lee Scholarship holders are expected to be fully involved in the life of the school.
