Friends of Wychwood

The Friends of Wychwood (FoW) is Wychwood School’s Parents Association.

We were established in 1999 with two equally important aims; to help build and strengthen the community of parents within the school and to raise additional money to help the school support our girls in a variety of ways.

Membership of FoW is automatic for all current parents. You are actively encouraged to get involved in any way you would like. We always need helpers for fundraising events including the Christmas Fair, the Second-Hand Uniform shop (SHUS) as well as school Open Mornings.

Please download our constitution.

FoW is run by a Committee of parents, some of whom take on the various ‘official’ roles as Chair, Secretary or Treasurer, some who become Form Reps and other members who join us at meetings. In addition, we are joined by the Head, Jane Evans.

Please download what the official roles entail.

FoW oversees the selling of second-hand uniform. The Second-Hand Uniform Shop (SHUS) is in the Hall and is open between 4.00pm and 5.00pm on the last Friday of each month during term-time. For more information, please visit the uniform page (SHUS information is at the bottom of the page) or email chairFOW@wychwood.org

Join us!

Helping the school support our girls is inherently worthwhile. Being involved with FoW also provides a great opportunity to get to know other parents, and we do have a lot of fun along the way.

Meetings are held twice a term, with the occasional additional meeting for a sub-committee in the run-up to an event. Agendas and minutes of meetings are published in Wychwood Weekly and in the online school calendar, enabling you to keep up-to-date with FoW activities. All parents are very welcome to join FoW at meetings.

Form Reps provide the important link between the FoW Committee and all other parents. Being a Form Rep is not onerous: the main role is communicating with your year group parents about FoW matters. Reps are asked to attend committee meetings and are generally involved in organising at least one FoW event over the year, more if you would like. You would usually take on the role for 2 years. Job shares are happily considered!

If you are interested in joining the FoW Committee, coming to meetings, becoming a Form Rep or helping at an event, please email chairFOW@wychwoodschool.org

Helping to support the girls

In recent years FoW has financially helped support the girls in a variety of ways. Girls have written to us directly asking, for example, for help to raise enough money to attend a Model United Nations (MUN) conference or for a travel grant towards voluntary work in Africa. We also regularly donate a sum of money towards the Study Ball, so the girls can leave Wychwood in style.

FoW has helped fund big ticket items that, otherwise, the girls would have had to wait for. Our most recent purchase was 10 iPads for the Science department. Other equipment we have contributed to includes film making software, percussion instruments and a Polymetal Printing Press for the Art department. Additionally, we have bought a television for the Sick Bay, giant bean bags for the Boarding House and we helped pay for a refurbishment of the Study rooms.

Other things are less exciting but nonetheless important; we are currently looking into buying new lockers for the girls to keep their belongings safe.
