Sport

Practise like you’ve never won,
perform like you’ve never lost.

Sport and PE at Wychwood are an integral part of school life. Through the varied sports programme,
the girls are encouraged to develop a lifelong love of sport and physical activity.

Our aim in PE is to inspire and educate all girls so that they understand the importance of
maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Our goal is to provide students with a broad and
varied curriculum that will help them find the sports or activities that they will pursue into
adulthood. Fun, teamwork, leadership and participation are at the heart of our mission to
ensure all girls enjoy physical activity and are supported to achieve their very best.

It is hoped that each girl is able to discover her talents, and is encouraged to play meaningful
and competitive sport, at House, School, representative, or purely at a recreational level.

Physical Education Programme

Years 10-13:

Girls participate in at least a double lesson each week. In these year groups the emphasis is upon girls perfecting their skills and tactics in full competitive situations and the ability to select and apply strategies and choreography within larger groups.

In addition we promote leadership skills throughout all Physical Education lessons. All girls in Study 1 will all be given the opportunity to gain an additional qualification by doing their Sports Leadership Award.

Sports Teams and Fixtures

Wychwood prides itself on competing in fixtures despite having a pupil roll which is significantly less than that of many of the schools we compete against. Our small size also means that, proportionally, more of our girls are likely to get the chance to play competitive sport. Weekly squad training sessions allow the girls to practise for these fixtures with the main sports being hockey, netball and rounders.

Extra Curricular Sports Clubs

The School runs a large range of sports clubs outside lesson time with a number taking place each term, including dance, hockey, trampolining, basketball, tennis, badminton, football and fitness. This gives all girls the opportunity to take part in an activity that they enjoy. Students are also encouraged to perform dance, trampolining and gymnastics in our annual Performing Arts evening.

Our Facilities

Our facilities include a tennis court, basketball court, badminton court, hall with gymnastics and trampolining facilities and fitness suite. We also have the use of numerous off-site facilities which include a swimming pool, six tennis courts, two netball courts, an athletics track, astro turf and field.
