DofE Bronze Award
17th October 2019
Dear Parents/Guardians
Your daughter has shown an interest in participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. There are three sections plus an expedition. The sections are volunteering, doing something physical (eg sport) and learning or improving a skill. These can all be activities that your daughter is currently doing; learning an instrument for example, or playing in a netball team. Please log on to www.dofe.org or speak to me for more information about what it entails.
The Bronze Award has the following structure:

Expedition section
To complete their DofE awards all participants must complete the expedition section. To do this participants must attend:
- A training and practice expedition (2 days for Bronze)
- A qualifying expedition (2 days for Bronze)
After working with A to Z Expeditions over the years we would highly recommend their services and have attached information regarding the Open Expedition dates that they have available in 2020.
Parents/guardians are responsible for booking with and making payments directly to AtoZ.
Dates
We are in the process of organising dates for the expeditions, but there will be one day at School, and two further weekend expeditions. The dates for these will be confirmed before the end of this term.
Expeditions include:
- Pre-expedition information pack with lots of helpful advice, kit lists etc
- Accommodation as detailed above
- Camping & Bunkhouse fees
- Free use of group equipment
- Supervision from experienced and helpful instructors
- DofE Accredited Assessors for the qualifying expedition
A to Z Expeditions provide the following free of charge:
- Tents
- Stoves, pans and fuel
- Group shelters
- Group first aid kits
- Maps
- Tracking Devices
You will need to arrange:
- Personal equipment, we will provide you with a kit list and expedition preparation guide
- All meals and snacks to eat during the programme
- Costs
The costs will be confirmed when we know numbers, but it is anticipated that they will be in region of £250.
If you would prefer to use another DofE approved expedition provider, please feel free to contact them. They may have dates which are more suitable for you or be in a preferred location.
If your daughter would like to participate in this year’s Bronze programme, please fill out the enrolment form she has been given, and complete the permission form opposite.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Philip Humphreys
